NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY Massage
Neuromuscular therapy is a precise form of massage working muscles from origin to insertion accessing specific trigger points found in the tissue. Trigger points are localized areas of tissue contraction that refer pain or sensation to surrounding or sometimes distant areas on the body. This referral pattern may be elicited when the point is palpated and can also be the cause for pain in a body area that was not involved in the initial trauma.
There is a common misconception that this type of massage therapy requires hard or deep pressure, while this may at times be the case, most often the deeper layers of muscle tissue are accessed by a progressive approach of softening the superficial layers. A more accurate term for this type of pressure would be precise and appropriate. The pressure whether light or firm is precisely directed to the sore spots or trigger points in the soft tissue.Your therapist will generally be able to locate these points through the use of palpation and knowledge of muscle origins and insertions, however it is also helpful to receive feedback from the recipient of the massage.
